We would like to announce a part-time job opening for the Social Development Worker position at Halfway
River First Nation Band administration office, starting as soon as possible. HRFN is currently accepting
applications for a caring, organized, and detail-oriented individual to become the Social Development Worker to
join our team.
Under the supervision of the Band Manager, the Social Development Worker administers the Income
Assistance Program under Indigenous Services Canada for HRFN members, ensuring access to social
assistance services. This role plays a vital part in enhancing the well-being of individuals and families by
offering culturally appropriate support, case management, and community programming. It also facilitates
access to social and employment programs for unemployed individuals, low-income families, and persons with
disabilities, promoting self-sufficiency and economic stability.
The Social Development Worker oversees the direction, management, and delivery of social programs and
services, including youth, child, and family programs. The position assists band members with social and
financial issues such as unemployment, addictions, family matters, and skills development while also
supporting clients in achieving financial independence through employment. This includes providing
information on services such as childcare, training, counseling, employment opportunities, and resources for
people with disabilities.
The Social Development Worker frequently collaborates with other HRFN departments, such as education and
health, to align efforts, develop joint initiatives, and enhance program delivery for community members.
Additionally, the Social Development Worker develops and coordinates initiatives, funding proposals, and
reporting while managing budgets, expenses, and policies. The incumbent works closely with other
departments, Chief and Council, government agencies, and external organizations to ensure the effective
execution and continuous improvement of HRFN’s social development programs.
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and a diploma or degree in Social Services
preferably within a First Nation community and at least one year of relevant experience and will demonstrate
reliability, punctuality, and dependability. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and
familiarity with other computer programs are essential. The candidate should also possess excellent verbal and
written communication skills.
Some of the main duties include:
• Assist individuals and families in accessing social services, including income assistance, housing
support, and emergency resources, ensuring recipients receive the necessary support to reach
financial sustainability and maintain a basic standard of living.
• Conduct intake assessments and determine eligibility for social programs.
• Maintain a monthly paylist to submit to the Finance Department for the monthly Income Assistance
payment.
• Prepare and submit all reports as required by external funders.

• Prepare proposals to access additional funds to develop, organize and maintain new social
development programs offered in the community. Collaborate with the Health, Education and other
Departments when developing new initiatives.
• Create and maintain all required files, statistics and prepare reports on program activities, client cases,
and community needs.
• Works cooperatively with Health, Education and other departments to promote education, training and
employment opportunities which may provide alternative methods for self-sufficiency outside of social
assistance.
• Organize and facilitate workshops, information sessions, and community events related to social
development.
• Assist in developing funding proposals and grant applications to support social programs.
• Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and funding requirements.
• Manage and maintain the budget for social development and reflect funds received from funding
agencies. Review monthly statements of revenue and expenditure to ensure correct coding of
expenditures.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position.
Compensation Pay: $30.00 per hour.
